 THE SPOTLIGHT falls on ......................

NAKURU HILTON/LONDON and The lady of Mercy Orphange.

Kenya aid appeals are spearheading a campaign to raise awareness and to promote action that will lead to empowerment, as well as bringing much needed relief to both areas.

The event is from JUNE to AUGUST 09 inclusive all dates.

The areas of HILTON and LONDON villages lie on the outskirts of NAKURU  next to the infamous rubbish dump.

It is from this vast tip that children of all ages scavage for food waste as it is the only source of food available to them. Bringing a school to the area with a school food program will bring these young ones to a place of education and nourishment. This in turn will enable them to gain qualifications to betterment and the end result will be empowerment.

The present buildings are a mixture of tin and mud walls. They are prone to flooding in the wet season which means the children in school are taken to the teachers house to continue studies.

Susan set up this school many years ago and has since managed just about everything herself, with some local volunteers and teachers. The road has not been easy and she gave up everything she had to continue what has now become known as the Nakuru dream. Monicha, a local government worker, and her friends in the area also set up a committee and between them all is this passion to see the "dream" become reality.

K.A.A.O was approached and we have no hesitation in joining these wonderful people in helping to bring the changes so badly needed.

JUNE : We begin phase one and tackle the food program. The aim is to get food to the school to  feed the children  at least one good  meal a day. To do this we need donations of cash, vouchers or dry foods.

JULY: We add phase two which will be to erase the ground rent and teachers arrears. Cash again is the requirement.

AUGUST: Will be phase three which will be make and mend month. The aim will be to get volunteers on the ground to carry out repairs to buildings, to erect more tin and timber structures ,to mix with and assist local people in setting up home crafts and self help units.

The end of the quarter will be highlighted with a one day fund raising event which will in effect be an open day. The date for this will be published end of July.

Running in conjunction with our Facebook page(Volunteerism) an event page is already in place. The title to enter for the search is "Road to empowerment".

Several have been mistreated by parents, guardians and have been taken into care by Mama Fatma who, without aid, has given many a child a chance of life for the better.

K.A.A.O has recently made several food donations, Mosquito net donations, medical fees help for Yusuf(young inmate), hospital support for Ibra(2 yr old who had been deliberately poisoned by a grandmother), tap and hose fittings to reconnect a"Dead" well to enable water sales to be made, clothes donations from well wishers.

A cook has been hired by KAAO @ 3000 kes a month to ensure best food value for money and a one day a week aide has been sponsored to assist Mama Fatuma with general errands in and around Mombasa. The Aide will be able to accompany children to hospital etc as and when required thus giving more free time to the director to concentrate on many pressing needs.
